The Academy of Health Careers at Crystal River High School provides programs to prepare high school students for a multitude of careers in the life sciences as well as offers the opportunity to earn job-ready certifications in each respective pathway. Program pathways include nursing assistant, Project Lead the Way honors biomedical sciences, dental assisting, veterinary assistant, and emergency medical technician. Skills developed in these programs include using tools and technology in the workplace, using quantitative skills appropriately, working within a team, developing effective written and verbal communication skills, understanding complex materials, and learning to critically think on the job.

The Academy of Health Careers was established at Crystal River High School more than 30 years ago and is the longest running academy program in Citrus County. From its growth of one pathway to five, it is currently comprised of approximately 240 students who were screened using equitable criteria that correlates with student success in the program and ultimately earning industry certification. Students are evaluated for acceptance into the program based on their attendance, academic grades and rigor, state test scores, and behavior in the classroom - all of which are maintained by our students during their time in our academy.
