9th Grade

 SGA Elections - We will be conducting Student Government elections during homeroom.  Ballot envelopes with instructions will be in your mailboxes this afternoon.  Please pick them up before homeroom tomorrow.

 

Link Leaders - Link Leaders will be coming to your room (after checking in with their homerooms first) to meet with your class (they should know most of the students from orientation). The Link Leaders will have an agenda with them as to their talking points for their check ins. Please feel free to let Danielle Doherty-Koch (dohertyd@citrus.k12.fl.us) know how they did.  If they were outstanding, please feel free to write a positive referral!

 

Voice of Democracy Scholarship – The VFW is once again offering the Voice of Democracy scholarship, available to all grade levels.  The theme for this year’s Audio Essay is “What makes America great?”  Interested students should come to the Guidance Office to pick up fliers.  The entry deadline for this scholarship is October 31st, 2019.

 

Creative Patriotic Art – The VFW is now offering a Creative Patriotic Art contest.  All entries must be received by March 31st.  Please stop by the Guidance office for more information.

 

Pirate Cove - Please let students know Pirate Cove is a resource room located in Guidance. It is available for any students in need of hygiene products, school supplies, or clothes. Students can ask teachers to send them to Guidance to ask for supplies out of Pirate Cove. In a few weeks an app will be loaded on the iPads so that students can privately request items from Pirate Cove if they prefer.

School supplies (binders, notebooks, paper, composition books, pens, pencils, highlighters, colored pencils, markers, string bags, backpacks, scissors, glue, index cards, calculators)

Toiletries (deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, soap, sanitary pads, brushes, combs, hair ties, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, lotion)

Clothes (shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, socks, shoes)

Towels, washcloths, blankets

  10th Grade

 PSAT - All students in a 10th grade homeroom have been registered for the PSAT on October 10th.  It is FREE for all 10th graders, however if you are in a 10th grade homeroom and you do NOT want to take the PSAT, you must have the Opt-Out form signed by a parent and returned by Friday, October 4th.  All Opt-Out forms can be picked up and dropped back off in the Guidance Office.

 State Testing Retakes - State Testing Fall retakes will begin on Tuesday, September 10th.  The FSA 10th Grade ELA Retake will begin on Tuesday, September 10th, consisting of three-day test sessions and the Algebra 1 EOC Retakes will begin on Tuesday, September 17th consisting of two-day sessions.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Josey in Guidance.

 PSAT/NMSQT – There is a scholarship opportunity for you if you are interested in applying for the National Merit Scholarship.  One of the requirements for qualification is to take the PSAT as an 11th grader.  Your 10th grade PSAT will not count!  The fee to take the test is $17, and you must register for the PSAT BEFORE the deadline of Friday, October 4th.  You may register and pay the fee in the Guidance office.

 Link Leaders - Link Leaders will be checking in with their homeroom teacher, then heading over to the homeroom teacher’s they had during orientation. These students will have an agenda for their check in with their 9th grade crew and will be gone for the rest of the homeroom period. The leaders will be the same ones that attended the meeting last week and should be wearing their shirts (please still let them go if they do not have their shirt on).

 College and Careers Expo – CF is holding their annual College and Careers Expo on September 9th, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.   Representatives from more than 20 educational institutions, businesses, professional and government organizations, and the military will be on hand, sharing valuable information with area high school students and their families.

 FAFSA Workshop – CF will be holding a FAFSA workshop on Thursday, October 3rd, at 5:00 PM.  Any student who needs more information about the FAFSA is encouraged to attend.  Please post the flier in your room.

 College and Careers Expo – CF is holding their annual College and Careers Expo on September 9th, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.   Representatives from more than 20 educational institutions, businesses, professional and government organizations, and the military will be on hand, sharing valuable information with area high school students and their families.

 College Visitations – Representatives from the following colleges will be visiting our campus on the listed dates and times.  Interested students should sign up in Guidance for these meetings:

The University of Florida (UF) will be here at 9:00 a.m.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) will be here at 10:30 a.m.

Stetson University will be here at 1:00 p.m.

 Tuesday, September 10th:

Florida Atlantic University will be here at 11:00 a.m. 

The University of South Florida will be here at 12:30 p.m.

 Thursday, September 12th:

Florida State University will be here at 9:30 a.m.
